A striking silhouette grabs the viewers attention. A dark shaped image against a light background conveys a sense of drama and mystery. The simplicity is alluring and draws the viewer into the photograph. The featureless interior of the well-defined shape sparks the imagination. The following series of photographs are a few of my silhouettes.
HELPFUL HINTS FOR PHOTOGRAPHING SILHOUETTES
1. Choose a subject with a defined shape – a profile is usually effective.
2. Have the light source come from behind your subject.
3. Do not use a flash.
4. Have a clean, uncluttered background.
5. Meter your camera for the light background and your subject will be dark.
